Matchday Essentials for all Football Parents

PAR002_123 • March 3, 2021

When the sunny days disappear and the cold winds and rain arrive, the idea of being a footballer's parent become distinctly less appealing. So we thought we'd share our top tips to help you through the whole season as a fully-fledged fan.

ESSENTIALS

  • Spare shin guards, Socks, Boots: Someone always forgets! Whether it's you or someone else on the team, it's always a good idea to have spares.
  • Foldable chairs: Take the load off.
  • Instant cold pack: Great for those bumps and bruises. Coach should have some in the team first aid kit but always a good idea to have some extras.
  • Umbrella: Need we say more? Try and get yourself a good quality brolly that won't fly away on those windswept rainfests!
  • Ball pump/needles: Again, the coach should have this under control but this wouldn't be a comprehensive list if we didn't think of every eventuality
  • Small first aid kit: Make sure it includes plasters and vaseline which work wonders for tight boots and blisters.
  • Tissues: Prepared mum classic!
  • Wet wipes: All round superstar item
  • Hand towel: Thank us later! Hot and sweaty or rain drenched and muddy, dry them off or just put it down on the car seat before they get in the car
  • Plastic bag: For wet boots/kit. Make sure you get most of the excess mud off first and stuff with newspaper. Most of all, don't forget they're in there
  • Boot Buddy or Brush: Fantastic for removing heavy mud on the go
  • Snack: Important quick energy source for when they've finished their game
  • Water: We can't stress how important it is for the kids to drink plenty of water whatever the weather. If there's one thing not to forget it's this.

Warm Weather

  • Sunscreen: In warm weather, it's essential to apply a high SPF sunscreen before you leave the house and bring more to top up whilst you're there.
  • Neck cooler: (like a Frog Tog)
  • Hat/cap: If you can get them to put it on and keep it on, you're winning.
  • Sunglasses: You wouldn't want to miss that worldie because the sun was in your eyes now would you?
  • Bug spray/Witch Hazel: For those pesky bites and stings in the spring/summer months
  • Picnic blanket: The sophisticated way to watch football!

Colder/Rainier Weather

  • Instant hand and feet warmers: These are a god send in the deep of winter.
  • Rain Jacket/Poncho: British weather!
  • Gloves & hats: Keep those extremities covered
  • Blanket: Imagine yourself sat on the sidelines in your folding chair with a cosy blanket wrapped around you just like Grandma...
  • Headband: To keep the icicles from your ears
  • Base layer tops and tights: To fit under kit on chilly mornings or damp days

Optional extras

  • Shade cover/canopy
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Whistle
  • Empty water bottle (in case you forget to pack water)
